Our friend and HCG reader Christa recently alerted us to a rather unusual development n the world of outlet shopping: the J. Crew outlet is now available online! If you're a fan of J. Crew, chances are you've scored more than a few great deals at a J. Crew outlet. Team HCG rarely walks out of J. Crew outlet without spending less than $500 (which, according to the sales clerk at our J. Crew outlet, is quite common. I asked). Like many guys we know, Joe usually buys an entire new wardrobe each time he visits the factory store.
In an interesting marketing strategy, the J. Crew factory store is available online only on weekends, and the quantity and selection are limited. A quick survey of the online goods yielded promising results. For women, we spied a decent offering of sweaters and sleeveless ruffled camis (perfect for the office). I even spotted a pair of earrings for $24.50 which I bought at a J. Crew store last August for $45 (I even posted about these earrings on HCG). For men, the options are practically endless. We saw a plethora of button-down and plaid shirts and plenty of sweaters, all priced lower than traditional J. Crew prices.
As much as we love the J. Crew outlet, we're not totally sure we're willing to buy the stuff online. After all, the quality of the outlet pieces isn't always stellar, but it's not like the sales are final - online outlet purchases can be shipped back or returned to an outlet store.
Will you skip shopping the outlet in person in favor of the online store?
