Last night I attended the best concert of my life: Jay-Z.
A little background: I’m a huge Jay-Z fan. If I could’ve had any musician (living or dead) perform at my wedding, I would’ve had Jay-Z perform (I still dream about it all the time. Imagine how crazy it would’ve been if he walked into the Hotel Alcott in Cape May, NJ? People would’ve been like, “I can’t believe Jay-Z is at Gina’s wedding! This is SO SICK!” And the crowd would’ve started chanting HO-VA! HO-VA!).
We hiked it out to Penn State from Philly just for the concert, and it was well worth the long drive (and the minor car accident we got into in State College after the concert – not worth elaborating on). It was my first time seeing him perform, and I can’t even put into words how sick it was. Our seats were amazing, and my boy Jigga delivered more than I could have ever expected. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the best rapper alive (his words, not mine). He played lots of stuff off his new album, The Blueprint 3 (which is incredible), but he also played tons of old school stuff. When “H to the Izzo” came on, I felt like I was a 17-year-old girl drop toppin’ my Miata all over Delaware County again.
I know there are a good amount of HCG readers who, like me, are big fans of Hova (I’m talking to you, Schneider), so here’s a sampling of the songs I can recall in a somewhat random order:
Run this Town
Empire State of Mind
D.O.A. (Death of Autotune) – This is my favorite song off of The Blueprint 3 and was definitely the best song of the night. The entire crowd was bouncing with their right arms going up and down (obviously, so were we).
Already Home
So Ambitious (featuring Pharrell – another awesome song off the new album)
A Star Is Born (featuring J. Cole)
On to the Next One
Venus vs. Mars
Show Me What You Got
Can I Get A…
Lucifer
99 Problems
Dirt Off Your Shoulder
Jigga What
Big Pimpin’
Hard Knock Life
Izzo (H.O.V.A.)
Thank You
Encore
Young Forever
Memphis Bleek guested on a few songs in the beginning, and the old school songs at the end were just snippets, not the entire songs.
I’ll never be the same.
