Armani’s liquid foundation really is as awesome as everyone says it is.
I mulled/obsessed over this foundation for nearly four years (I guess long, drawn out obsessions are a habit of mine). The Armani foundation gets an insane amount of press from celebrities and makeup artists and wins countless best beauty picks in magazines (including InStyle’s 2009 Best Liquid Foundation). I’ve used many different liquid foundations in my lifetime – Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, custom foundation that doesn’t even have a name – and this is by far the best.
The product lives up to its name; it truly feels as though you’re applying luminous silk (whatever that is) to your skin. The finished product is an insanely smooth and silky skin texture. In short, Armani foundation provides the perfect amount of coverage without looking overdone.
Don’t wait four years to try it like I did. Start living your life now.

You’ve got me thinking about switching from Smashbox. My only concern is finding the right shade. I’ve gotten foundation from Nordstrom before but I felt as though the cosmetician misled me and I ended up with a completely wrong color. Some of them are not always as knowledgeable as others. I only know this because when I went to Judi she said, “Why would you ever buy this? You look like a tangerine.” Any suggestions?
CF: You raise a very important point. It can be extremely challenging to find the perfect shade of foundation. When I purchased this foundation, I spent about half an hour with the Armani artist trying different shades on and discussing it ad nauseam with her. Although some makeup counter reps can be knowledgeable, you’re definitely smart not to rely on their suggestions alone.
I suggest two things: (1) since you know the Smashbox shade works on you and have had that color approved by a makeup artist who you trust, bring that with you to see what is the closest match; and (2) bring an honest friend to provide a second opinion. It doesn’t take a makeup counter degree to tell if someone’s foundation doesn’t match her face. Godspeed.
very happy to read about this…i am in the market for some new make-up! i need to make myself look younger as i approach 35 (or 24 according to you–thanks for that!! ha!!).
I think a Valentine’s day date idea blog in the city needs to done…HCG style.
I am also a Smashbox junkie. From the minute it was on my skin, I have loved it. I am somewhat of a skeptic about the price, especially because my mom told me she found an Oil of Olay foundation that she claims matches the amazingness of Smashbox. So, I ask you this HCG, can you update us on how long the foundation lasts you? Do you apply everyday? When I hear about length of use, I will make the decision whether or not to make the leap. I LOVE talking about makeup.
*sigh* HCG’s amazing recommendations strike again! My upcoming nuptials and the threat of many, many pictures forced me (ok, ok, I’ll use any excuse to try great new makeup) to try this foundation (and GA’s amazing makeup brushes) and you’re right – my skin feels silkier than ever! Thanks!
T: The Armani foundation is the same size as the Smashbox foundation if that gives you some perspective. Yes, I do wear it every day that I wear makeup (it’s so awesome I find it hard not to). I generally only need one pump from the bottle, but some days I like more coverage and use two pumps. I’ve been using it consistently since mid-November, and I believe I have a good amount left, although the glass bottle makes it difficult to tell. I’ll keep track of when I run out to give you a better idea. Hope this helps!
Brittney: What great timing! It definitely helps to have an amazing foundation for your wedding day, and it really doesn’t get any better than this. If only HCG had existed and discovered this foundation before our wedding… Good luck!
Are you still a fan? Anything else come down the pike in the line of foundation that has changed your life? Have obessed for 1 year, and I think I am going to go for it, that is if HCG still approves!
AL: Yes, I am still a fan! I say you give it a shot. Since you and I are both of Irish descent, I recommend taking extra care to choose the correct shade. My first bottle (a shade 4 I believe) was a little too yellow for my skin tone, so I made sure to get something with more of a pink base this time around. The texture of the Armani foundation is unparalleled. Keep me posted if you get it!
